An idiot’s guide is a bit harsh, but hopefully it caught your attention – Lets call it the ‘Ding A Lings’ guide to F%^king things up – Drone Fishing
- Never read the manual and do not watch How to videos
- Flying a bait out before drone practice
- Using a drop loop less than 1.5 meters
- Attaching baits while in the air or catching drone
- Taking off from a car bonnet or other platforms other than the ground
- Maintaining less than 3-4 meters from the fishing rod or other objects
- Not checking that the line is tangled on the rod tip
- Not checking the reel drag or reel arm is open before taking off
- Flying downwards or backwards while the bait is attached
- Not confirming the bait has released before returning the drone
- Not always watching the drone
- Putting the remote controller down on return to land while drone is in the air
- Not maintaining safe operation and situational awareness
- Overloading the drone beyond 80% of its capabilities
- Flying the drone in wind speeds exceeding pilot ability and drone specifications
- Flying your drone in your front or back yard
- Flying your drone within 15 meters of trees or buildings
It may seem like common sense, but most accidents happen due to the above list – it is surprising how often F#*k ups occur – its not rocket science – never do any of the above and you will minimise expensive and possibly dangerous accidents.
As a drone pilot you are responsible for any accidents or injuries caused to others – let’s all be safe and have fun.
